SECTION 8 HOUSING NOTICE

Haga un clic abajo para escuchar esta información en Español

The Section 8 Waiting List that opened at 10 AM on May 20, 2009, has reached the maximum 1,000 applications for this period, and is now closed.  We apologize to those who were not able to apply during this opening, but we anticipate the list will re-open in 15-18 months.

As an alternative to Section 8, you may apply for our Public and Assisted Housing programs as well as any privately subsidized complex that offers reduced rent.  You may obtain Public and Assisted Housing applications from either our Eugene or Springfield Housing offices or here. The application packet will also contain the list of privately subsidized units in Lane County.  This list is also available on our web site under the title, Other Resources.

Please look for the reopening of the list next year.

How Section 8 Works
The Section 8 program gives the family or individual a voucher. With the voucher, the family or individual looks for a unit that they would like to rent. If the owner or landlord agrees to rent to the voucher holder, Section 8 may be able to pay a portion of the rent.

Section 8 families/individuals find their own rental units.

Section 8 assistance can also be transferred to other areas in the USA.

Who Qualifies?
For the Section 8 program, a family/individual must be under these annual income limits at the time they first receive Section 8 housing assistance. After that, the amount of income can be greater than these limits.

Nondiscrimination Policy
HACSA assists families, single people, and people with disabilities. The Housing Authority does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, religion, national origin, age, sexual orientation, color, familial status, mental or physical disability.

Emergency Housing
HACSA does not provide emergency housing assistance. If you need housing right away, try these community resources.

What Happens If I Move Before Getting Section 8?
We contact people by mail when they are at the top of the waiting list. Periodically, we may also contact people by mail to update information on our waiting list.

It is very important that we have a current mailing address for you at all times. Your mailing address can be updated by calling our office at 682-2537 and leaving this information on the application voice mail.

You may also e-mail this information to us, or put this information in writing and mail it to our office at:

HACSA
177 Day Island Road
Eugene, OR 97401

If we try to contact you and you haven't updated your address, your application will be CANCELLED and you will have to re-apply for the program.

We recommend that you keep all receipts and correspondence from the Housing Authority as a record of your contacts with us.

What If I'm Currently Homeless?
If you are homeless, we must have a mailing address for you. You can use the address of a friend or relative. We recommend that you use the address of someone who will be able to get in touch with you.
